I grew up in San Francisco and moved to Sacramento after graduating from UC Davis with a Bachelor's Degree in Asian American Studies. After working with local non-profits, I have been working in the tax, bookkeeping and payroll space since 2014 with small businesses, non-profits, and individuals at small and medium sized CPA firms in the Sacramento area.
Beginning my career in this space, I was an Executive Assistant and gained the gained the trust of clients with kind and patient customer service. Each client's situation is different so I lead with a caring and empathetic conversation. The tax code is very intricate and with the dizzying amount of forms and figures. Therefore, I positively deliver and patiently explain each client's returns and field questions for the CPA.
Helping to solve client's matters at the front-lines customer service level lead to preparing returns in my career growth. In taking initiative with the job experience, I took the plunge to dive deeper into getting credentialed with the Internal Revenue Service. After studying after work hours (and raise a toddler at the time!), I earned the Enrolled Agent credential with the IRS.
Working concurrently to gain tax preparation experience and earn the Enrolled Agent credential, I gathered a love for a key business function for small businesses -- payroll processing and administration. Payroll is one of the largest expenses for a business and because payroll affects each employee, every detail counts, and affects the livelihood of all. I have successfully managed clients' payroll from the inception of a payroll process, on-boarding of employees, all the way to resolving payroll tax matters with the IRS and state agencies.
In the midst of the tax and payroll experience, I realized that managing the bookkeeping cycle for clients became the on-going business function that is the foundation for a business's financials. In working with many clients from different industries, I successfully deliver monthly financials that incorporate all the other moving parts -- payroll, inventory, expenses, revenue, credit cards, loans, asset acquisition and disposition, among others. This gives my clients a full picture of how their business is doing so that there are no surprises. With this full picture, planning for positive tax outcomes became a reality.
As father raising three school-aged children with his loving wife, Oliver makes time to run (abeit slowly!) outdoor trails, lift heavy objects, and climb through obstacles -- also known as Spartan Race. My favorite Disney character is Stitch. I'm a sucker for reality TV shows like "Top Chef", "Survivor", and "Big Brother".
And...shout outs to my favorite DJs at KCRW.com for playing the best music to get me through each day: "Morning Becomes Eclectic" with Novena Carmel, Ro "Wyldeflower" Contreras, Francesca Harding, Jeremy Sole, and "Metropolis" with Jason Bently.
